Why is a computer virus harmful? For the same basic reason that biological viruses are: they damage components that keep systems healthy.Some are relatively benign - they generate annoying, juvenile messages or crash the system once, then go away. But many are specifically designed to do substantial harm - by deleting files needed to run word processing programs or perform essential operating system tasks. Some prepare the way for further attacks by opening up access to administrative functions.Combating them is simple - install antivirus software, keep it up-to-date and running in the background and don't open email attachments from unknown sources.Nonetheless, odds are high that someday the system will be infected. Important data will be lost, essential program and operating system files will be zapped. Now what?First thing: Don't panic. You may not even be infected. Before implementing a cure you have to diagnose properly.If the system is still functional and you have access to the Internet, search for current, known viruses. Scan your system manually and search the file system for virus programs or infected files. Search memory too - sometimes the little creeps hide there.Test multiple programs and operating system functions. It may be that something just went wrong with one component. Not a fool-proof method, the virus may have just attacked those specific ones.If the system isn't functional, boot the system using an antivirus diskette or CD. You did prepare one, right? No? Er, go back to Step 0 - pre-attack - and (1) prepare bootable antivirus diskettes and a CD, (2) create CD copies of software purchased and/or organize the originals, and (3) backup important data.Scan the system after booting from diskette or CD and look for the virus or infected files. You really are infected? Ok, on to the next phase.If you're running Windows select the boot option: Last Known Good Configuration. It rarely helps, but sometimes you'll get lucky, and if you've re-booted twice you've lost the opportunity.If you're running Windows, check for existence and the dates of key operating system files. (The list is too long to display here. Search Microsoft's web site for 'Operating System files', or make a list from the Windows (or WINNT) directory and System (or System32) sub-directory, of another computer. For the same service pack level, the dates should match other files, for the most part. Check especially kernel32.exe and lsass.exe. Hackers like to go after those two. Fixes from Microsoft update some, but they tend to come in bunches. Just one with a different date is suspect. Yes, no one said this was going to be easy. The Importance Of Defragmenting Your Hard Disk
Defragmenting your hard disk regularly is important in ensuring the efficiency of your computer. It's a way to allow your computer to clean up and re-organize itself for a system that runs better and faster.How does defragmenting work and why is it important?When your computer is working; using, opening, saving files, changing data in the files, it uses up areas on your hard disk. If you save a file for example, the hard disk will take that file and store it in sections on the computers hard drive that are adjacent to each other, depending on the size of the file. When you do, changes occur on the hard disk and some areas will become empty pockets. These areas are referred to as fragmentation. From above, you'll see that the files are scattered all over the surface, with some areas empty. Small files will usually fit a small area, but for bigger files, it's different. On bigger files, it will be difficult to try to fit them in a limited space so your computer will instead break the file down into fragments and store these fragments in different locations on the hard disk. Although this helps keep the files in place, it tends to build up over time. The randomness with which these files stored also clutters your hard drive and later, it will take a bit longer for your computer to locate things. This is when you'll notice that your system is getting slower. Because the hard disk becomes too fragmented, each time you try to open a file or use a program, it will take longer for the computer to locate and gather the necessary files. This causes the operating system to run more slowly, making your computer less efficient. Defragmenting (sometimes referred to as 'defrag' or 'defragging') will help re-arrange the files and keep them in order and easy to find. Daily removal of facial hair requires the application of vitamin-rich shaving gel to protect skin from rashes and burns that sometimes result from shaving. If you want to avoid having your appearance referred to as 'weather beaten' you had better start protecting your skin from the sun. Sunburns aren't sexy and neither are the signs of premature aging. If surfers are man enough to walk around with heavy white zinc on their noses and lips, then you can be man enough to apply sunscreen when you're outdoors golfing, fishing, working or playing. General Guidelines For Men's Skin CareBegin the day by deep-cleaning your face to remove dirt and sweat. Cleanse again before going to bed. Exfoliate to remove dead skin cells and other pore-blocking grime. Exfoliating also will open your pores and that's going to ensure a closer shave. Before shaving, splash your face with warm water. That will make it easier to work up a good lather and it will soften skin. Take a few extra moments to really massage in the shaving cream. The massaging action will help stimulate blood flow in the dermis. Never use a dull blade to shave. And to ensure a close shave, always shave in the same direction as hair growth. Shaving in the opposite direction or shaving in both directions can leave you with skin that's red and irritated. Finally, take your time when shaving. Even though you've done it most of your life, you still need to be careful.Moisturizing is important to help skin seal in moisture. Plus, many shaving products dry skin. Choose moisturizing products that also condition skin such as those that contain vitamins or aloe vera. It's important to use after shave products that don't contain alcohol. Whether you are male or female, a mom or a dad, balancing career and family can be really difficult. When you're a woman, though, the choices you have to make seem especially difficult and the responsibilities all the more great. For some reason, women are guilt-ridden with their career decisions and the choices they make about working while trying to raise their children, providing nutritious meals for their family, keeping a respectable house and keeping their husbands happy. Last on the list, of course, is finding some time for themselves. So how does a woman find time to actually feel happy with her daily activities while keeping up with all of the responsibility? First, take time to smell the roses! Literally, you can take time to smell the roses but you can actually do this with no flowers in sight. Every day, try to look around and appreciate what you have, taking in the sounds of your child's laughter, the wag of your dog's tail, the special glance of your husband as you tell a funny joke. Sometimes, the knowledge of what you have on your plate for the day will feel overwhelming, but a little perspective goes a long way. It may be a cliché and a very tired phrase, but it truly does work. People tend to get lost in the mundane, day-to-day "functioning" instead of really living their lives. For example, next time you are worried about fitting in your exercise with your child's play date at Little Gym, forego the Little Gym and head out with your son or daughter for a run. Strap the little one in the jog stroller or if he or she is old enough, ask them to put on the running shoes with Mommy and head outside! Once outside, you can literally stop to smell the roses. Just a few minutes of gratitude a day will work wonders for your soul and automatically make your life feel more balanced. Along these same lines, try and give yourself some "me" time once a week. Once a week may not seem like much, but if you really allow yourself to soak it in and enjoy the time spent, it will make the stress of all of the rest of the hectic days melt away. Take a good block of time on a Saturday or Sunday - 2 hours, maybe - and mark this time in your calendar in pen, not pencil. Keep a standing appointment with yourself, and honor it as you would any other. Think you are too busy on a weekend to do this? You will feel much more productive the rest of the weekend allowing yourself this little ‘refresher', rather than trying to cram some time in on a random Tuesday or other weeknight. For this special time, you can book a massage or a facial at your favorite spa. Take a couple of hours to go window shopping at your favorites stores, by yourself or with a friend. Take in a matinee with a couple of girlfriends. If your husband is willing to fly solo on a Saturday night, you can even book a girls' night out once in a while and truly let loose! Even if your budget doesn't allow for these activities once a week, you can lock yourself in the bathroom with a good book, a bubble bath and a nice glass of wine and feel good about your time alone - you deserve some! Probably the most obvious way to balance career and family is to incorporate your family into what would otherwise be "work time". If you have a short commute to work, for example, perhaps you can drive your kids to school each morning instead of having them take the bus. In the alternative, you could have your morning cup of coffee at the bus stop with them and spend a few minutes chatting about their day and what they plan to learn in school as you sip your cup of Joe and breathe in the morning air to mentally prepare for your own day ahead. If you normally exercise in the morning and leave the house very early, switch your workout time to lunch and leave the office to go to the gym, eating at your desk when you get back. You will have more time with your family each day and get a healthy break from your pile of papers to boot. You may need to get a little creative with your schedule, but there are definitely ways to help balance career and family. Sometimes an extra few minutes each day or a once-weekly good block of time can go a long way in helping restore your peace of mind and help you feel less harried.

Whether you are male or female, a mom or a dad, balancing career and family can be really difficult. When you're a woman, though, the choices you have to make seem especially difficult and the responsibilities all the more great. For some reason, women are guilt-ridden with their career decisions and the choices they make about working while trying to raise their children, providing nutritious meals for their family, keeping a respectable house and keeping their husbands happy. Last on the list, of course, is finding some time for themselves. So how does a woman find time to actually feel happy with her daily activities while keeping up with all of the responsibility? First, take time to smell the roses! Literally, you can take time to smell the roses but you can actually do this with no flowers in sight. Every day, try to look around and appreciate what you have, taking in the sounds of your child's laughter, the wag of your dog's tail, the special glance of your husband as you tell a funny joke. Sometimes, the knowledge of what you have on your plate for the day will feel overwhelming, but a little perspective goes a long way. It may be a cliché and a very tired phrase, but it truly does work. People tend to get lost in the mundane, day-to-day "functioning" instead of really living their lives. For example, next time you are worried about fitting in your exercise with your child's play date at Little Gym, forego the Little Gym and head out with your son or daughter for a run. Strap the little one in the jog stroller or if he or she is old enough, ask them to put on the running shoes with Mommy and head outside! Once outside, you can literally stop to smell the roses. Just a few minutes of gratitude a day will work wonders for your soul and automatically make your life feel more balanced. Along these same lines, try and give yourself some "me" time once a week. Once a week may not seem like much, but if you really allow yourself to soak it in and enjoy the time spent, it will make the stress of all of the rest of the hectic days melt away. Take a good block of time on a Saturday or Sunday - 2 hours, maybe - and mark this time in your calendar in pen, not pencil. Keep a standing appointment with yourself, and honor it as you would any other. Think you are too busy on a weekend to do this? You will feel much more productive the rest of the weekend allowing yourself this little ‘refresher', rather than trying to cram some time in on a random Tuesday or other weeknight. For this special time, you can book a massage or a facial at your favorite spa. Take a couple of hours to go window shopping at your favorites stores, by yourself or with a friend. Take in a matinee with a couple of girlfriends. If your husband is willing to fly solo on a Saturday night, you can even book a girls' night out once in a while and truly let loose! Even if your budget doesn't allow for these activities once a week, you can lock yourself in the bathroom with a good book, a bubble bath and a nice glass of wine and feel good about your time alone - you deserve some! Probably the most obvious way to balance career and family is to incorporate your family into what would otherwise be "work time". If you have a short commute to work, for example, perhaps you can drive your kids to school each morning instead of having them take the bus. In the alternative, you could have your morning cup of coffee at the bus stop with them and spend a few minutes chatting about their day and what they plan to learn in school as you sip your cup of Joe and breathe in the morning air to mentally prepare for your own day ahead. If you normally exercise in the morning and leave the house very early, switch your workout time to lunch and leave the office to go to the gym, eating at your desk when you get back. You will have more time with your family each day and get a healthy break from your pile of papers to boot. You may need to get a little creative with your schedule, but there are definitely ways to help balance career and family. Sometimes an extra few minutes each day or a once-weekly good block of time can go a long way in helping restore your peace of mind and help you feel less harried.

Thats not to say those games are bad; its just that if a little more work was but into them, they could have been truly great. "Superman Returns" is a recent title that fits into that category, as it seems to have been developed and released much to quickly. The "Superman Returns" movie was released in the summer of '06, and then in November, the video game was released for a few different gaming consoles; more specifically the XBOX 360.The storyline of the video game seems to stick with the movie. Although, if you didn't see the movie, there is a good chance you will get lost a number of times with the storyline's overall plot. While playing, you will often ask yourself, "Why do I have to do this, why do I have to do that?" Your first instinct might be "Oh, I must have missed a cut-scene or some dialog", but actually, the storyline is just that vague. Even those of you who have seen the movie may become confused at times with some of the situations and how they tie in with the actual movie. The storyline is there, but then again it seems as though it is not there and its really just a bunch of short stories tied together. Luckily, there is more to look forward to than just the storyline of "Superman Returns".Anyone familiar with Superman knows that he protects the city of Metropolis from evil doers and "bad" guys. Batman has Gotham, Superman has Metropolis; thats just how it is. Since you happen to be controlling Superman, you are going to get to do everything that Superman is capable of. That means: running at incredible speeds, flying faster then a speeding bullet, lifting massive objects with ease, melting objects with heat vision, freezing enemies with frost breath, using super breath, and much more. Unfortunately, Superman is incapable of leaping tall buildings in a single bound. As a matter of fact, Superman can not even jump at all in this game, which can be quite frustrating at times. However, with all of his other abilities, the average gamer should be satisfied.Well, all those super powers wouldn't be fun if there were no bad guys to use them on. Fortunately, there will be plenty of bad guys in the city at all times; so you won't have any trouble finding someone to unleash your awesome powers on. Its nice to just have superpowers to defeat enemies, but Superman has more then just flashy powers. He has an entire arsenal of excellent combos that can be used to weaken his enemies. A lot of the combos will lead players to lots of button smashing, but it is button smashing at its best. Once you have weakened your enemy with all that button smashing, you can finish them off. You could just punch them a few more times, or you could no something more fun. Use the D-Pad to select your Heat Vision power, then target the enemy and set him ablaze. If you're feeling like the villain deserves even more punishment, select "Super Breath", blow the targeted enemy high into the sky, then quickly switch to "Heat Vision" and use it on the enemy. Its truly a wonderful sight to see an enemy falling out of the sky on fire, plummeting to his ultimate doom.Powers and combos are not your only tool. Another great advantage you have in combat is your strength. Your strength allows you to pick up immense objects and hurl them at nearby enemies, whether they are in the air or on the ground. You can also pick up stop signs, street lamps, traffic lights, etc. and then use that object as a "bat" and bash up enemies with it. You can also grab enemies and throw them where ever you wish; such as off a building, into a building, high into the air, into the ocean, into the ground, etc. You can pretty much do anything with/to an enemy; so the questions isn't "What can I do with this enemy?", its "What should I do with this enemy?"Even though you have a lot of combat options, don't just assume that the enemies will let you do whatever you want. They will fight back, and they will fight hard. Some of them will in fact be target dummies that won't put up much of a fight, but there will be plenty of enemies that won't be taken down so easily. Some of the enemies will even be vulnerable to certain powers, while others will be impervious to them. There is even an enemy that will get stronger when a specific power is used against it. As a precaution, always be sure you learn the strengths and weaknesses of an enemy you are facing; if not, you'll be in more trouble then you thought.The combat system is indeed fun and constantly fighting enemies with your powers can provide plenty of entertainment, but there is a problem. You will be basically completing the same objectives over and over. Since the game is done in chapters, you will have to complete a series of objectives to complete a chapter. The problem is not with the quantity of objectives, but the quality of them. Most of the objectives are quite similar, which usually puts a bad taste in the players mouth. Most players will say, "I have already done this! Why the heck do I have to do it again?!" Obviously, you won't say this in the first hour or two of playing, but after awhile you will notice the similarities of many of the games objectives.Superman is invulnerable; so the question is, "How do you make a game with an invulnerable hero fun?" Well, instead of Superman having a health bar, the city of Metropolis does. When City begins to recieve damage, the health bar will slowly diminish over time. This means if a robot is tossing cars around and setting buildings on fire, the city will lose "health". Thats when you intervene and stop the destruction. However, you are equally capable of destroying the city as well. So if you start picking up cars and lobbing them at your enemies, you might cause some extra damage. Therefore, try to get the enemy into a wide open space. That way you don't have to worry about the surrounding buildings or the passing civilians. The civilians can be a real pain because they will frequently become injured and thats when you must bring them to an ambulance. Fighting villains, saving citizens, and preventing the destruction of Metropolis can get pretty hectic at times, not to mention frustrating; but remember, you're Superman, you can handle it. But, if you get tired of being a hero, play as Bizarro and wreck havoc instead of saving the day."Superman Returns" is not the most graphically spectacular game, but then again, its not dull either. "Superman Returns" for the XBOX 360 is definitely better in the visuals department then any of its other ports, such as the PS2 or XBOX versions. The city is also much larger and more detailed in the XBOX 360 version of the game. The PS2 and XBOX consoles seem to have traded detail for space, as each of the buildings look nearly identical and rather plain & boring. As stated earlier, "Superman Returns" had a lot of potential, but unfortunately it was rushed to meet the DVD release and some things didn't get a lot of attention.Overall, "Superman Returns" (for the XBOX 360) seems like a pretty good game. It does have some weak areas that should have been looked into, but not all games can be perfect. Obviously, opinions will vary on this game; some say it "stinks to high heaven", while other gamers think its excellent. The only true opinion that matters is yours, so just try it out and see what you think.NEW!
